Anchoring Truths from God's Word

A Soft Answer

King Solomon was the wises man, and he says in the following verse that a soft answer turneth away wrath. Words are very powerful. The old saying “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me” is so untrue. Words can hurt people. It’s important to think about what we are about to say because what we say can affect someone negatively or positively for the rest of their life. Our words, like this verse says, can cause tensions, strife, anger, and so much more; however, having a soft answer can be edifying, uplifting, and encouraging. Our speech as Christians should be pointing others to Christ. How is your speech? Do your words seem to stir up strife? God has a soft still voice (1 Kings 19:11-13).
